International Women's Day | Co-Founder's Note

The age old trope of “men are strong” and “women are too emotional” is a prevalent one. This notion is omnipresent in all aspect of life including the athletic sphere. Yet, female athletes have completely and unapologetically tapped into their strength and made their mark in sports.

The beauty of sports is that it is an ever-evolving field. Every individual who participates works towards improving themselves constantly. SQUATWOLF’s Co-Founder, Anam Khalid is a staunch advocate of self-improvement and hard work. She encourages women across the globe to put up a fight and #breakthebias.

Founder’s Note

Happy International Women’s Day to our She-Wolves!

We have so much to celebrate on this occasion. It is a reminder that we, as women, can achieve anything that we set our minds to, and no amount of bias, gender discrimination, and stereotypes can deter us from our goals.

Since the beginning, I've always enjoyed challenging myself, and never stuck to my comfort zone. For me, it was never about things being “stable” and “easy”.

For me, it was always about the “hustle” and an inner drive to accomplish something greater in life. Growing up, I was taught to value justice and equality at every step of the way regardless of gender. My upbringing enabled me to create something that was accessible to everyone. “Equal opportunity for all” has always been my life motto.

Although, I was living a fairly comfortable life in the UAE with a job I liked, a husband I adored and friends I enjoyed my time with, it just wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to do more with my time. I yearned to do something that would make a difference in other people’s lives, no matter how small. So, in 2016 my husband and I worked together to build a business centered on fitness.

After much deliberation and hard work, SQUATWOLF was born. It was our child. We nurtured it, loved it, and cared for it. From packing orders in our living room, to now having a team of professionals and triple digit year-on-year growth, we have come a long way.

Today SQUATWOLF has become one of the fastest-growing start-ups in the Middle East and beyond. But it isn’t just a fitness apparel start-up. It is a vessel which has transported women towards victory and will continue to do so in the future. I am a strong advocate of equality and justice. This is how I was raised, and this is the value I live by.

Women have been trying to make their mark in the athletic world for centuries. From present-day sports icons like Simone Biles and Serena Williams to female athletes of the ancient Greek era, the struggle to be seen, appreciated and heard has been omnipresent.

We acknowledge that struggle and have made an active effort to uplift women in our organization.

At SQUATWOLF, we #breakthebias by:

  • Encouraging female athletes and fitness influencers to become pioneers by providing them much-needed exposure,
  • Ensuring there is an equal number of women in each department. We believe in providing equal opportunity to everyone regardless of their gender,
  • Allowing women to use SQUATWOLF as a platform to promote their skills and giving them an equal playing field on all levels.

Today, the fight for equality has garnered immense public support resulting in a small but impactful closure of the gender gap. May we continue our resistance against gender bias! Happy International Women’s day!
