If you have trouble sticking to your healthy diet routine and can’t seem to follow through with your exercise regimen, then hypnotherapy might just be what you need. But don’t get us wrong, hypnotherapy is not going to make you unconscious and magically help you drop 15 pounds overnight.
Hypnotherapy is used to look for the cause of your demotivation or obstacles hindering your weight loss journey and then works by reprogramming your mindset. It mainly works on our subconscious mind which makes up 90% of who we are as humans and what we do throughout our lives.
Every thought pattern, behavior, and reaction is a part of our subconscious mind. A study suggests that hypnotherapy regulates our consciousness all the way through by engaging different regions of our brain.
To delve into this interesting topic, we connected with Elliott Wald, UK’s coveted hypnotherapist who specializes in clinical hypnotherapy and neurolinguistic programming. He has authored three books and is a master trainer in NLP.
Elliott Wald has over 25 years of experience and has demonstrated his skills on National TV watched by millions of people locally and internationally. He has helped multiple people with addictions, phobias, depression, anxiety, and weight loss, all in a span of a few sessions. The results have been mind-blowing, to say the least.
What made you start hypnotherapy?
My journey goes back to when I was a young child. I think what you encounter in life mainly, challenges, and molds you to make decisions according to how you want your life to be in the future. There are things that you go through which may make you emulate them, or you can choose a different path that leads toward growth and success. I
was 6 years old when my father passed away. I left my house and didn’t come back until I was 9 years old. By the time I came home, my mother had remarried.
My stepfather was very abusive and this environment made me leave home by the time I turned 14. These events deepened my understanding of human nature.
I realized I had to study and understand human nature so I could sympathize with them. I got involved in psychology in my early 20s. I started studying hypnotists, linguistics, and how it affects the mind, body language, and so on. That’s how it all started.
How does hypnotherapy work?
You’ve got to think of your mind like an iceberg in the ocean. The tip of the iceberg is your conscious mind. It is very small because you are consciously aware of very minute things such as the temperature of the room. Then you have the large part of the iceberg, which is beneath the ocean, that part of our mind is the subconscious.
Your subconscious mind is a mirror of everything that you go through. Your likes, dislikes, thought process, and everything brewing inside your being. Hypnosis taps into your unconscious mind and rearranges the wiring and equips you to see and do things differently.
How does hypnotherapy help someone with weight loss?
When you go to the gym, you must have the right mindset to work out or engage in any physical activity. Focus is critical while you are working out. Discipline and focus are crucial for weight loss. At the end of the day what you eat and how you work out is what matters.
What if someone wants to lose weight but lacks the drive and motivation to make it happen?
Before starting a weight loss journey, you must have a vision of what you want to look like or what you want to achieve. Once you have that end goal in mind it’s easy to motivate yourself. That goal you have set your mind to is what hypnosis uses to make you take relevant steps to achieve said result.
What’s Your Favorite Success Story?
I was dealing with someone who thought he was Jesus. This person’s mother contacted me and told me in these exact words “my son thinks he is Jesus.” It had been five years and he had been to many psychologists and psychotherapists but to no avail.
I flew down to Miami, Florida, and met his mother. I asked her to show me his secondary school, his basketball court, and the lunch area. It was a Friday, and I asked the boy “you are Jesus, aren’t you?” He said “yes, I am”.
I told him it was Good Friday, and everybody knows Jesus was put on the cross on Good Friday. I took a black marker pen and began marking the palm of his hands. I had a couple of guys nail a cross right in front of him.
The boy got scared and started screaming out his real name. I started asking him his school name, favourite milkshake, favourite restaurant, and suddenly he seemed to know the answer to all my questions.
I performed hypnosis on him for three days straight to change his thought process. After three months, I went back to visit him and his mother and he had not gone back to pretending to be Jesus. I stepped into his reality and changed his mindset.
Does Hypnotherapy Work For Weight loss?
Absolutely, because at the end of the day your decision to exercise comes from your mind. If you allow yourself to get in the right mindset, you don’t need to continue living an unhealthy lifestyle. The ability to focus lies in your mind. It helps you navigate your lifestyle towards a healthier path.
Does Hypnotherapy Start Working After The First Session?
Yes, it starts working after the first session. Hypnotherapy is one of the fastest and most effective solutions to your problems. You don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds or take thousands of therapy sessions. Four sessions and you are good as new. The results of hypnotherapy are quick and long-term.
What If Someone Doesn’t Have Access To You In Person?
I give sessions online and have been giving them across the globe. You can visit my website and get an online or in-person appointment.
Is Online Therapy Different Than In-person Therapy?
It is still personal because the sessions are one-on-one. When I am giving online sessions, I study their case history. I understand their values, their beliefs, and how they process information and then I devise a plan accordingly.
Does Hypnotherapy Work According To Science?
To many people’s surprise hypnotherapy has robust scientific evidence. It has been known to help elevate symptoms of anxiety, pain, addiction, sleep problems and weight loss.
A study suggests that hypnotherapy when added to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy aids in weight loss. Participants who took hypnotherapy lost more weight compared to those who didn’t. Moreover, some evidence suggests that people who took hypnotherapy had a better quality of sleep, lower levels of inflammation in their bodies, and better satiety, helping them stay away from unhealthy eating habits.
